
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has urged landlords to not demand a deposit or top-up payment from NSFAS-funded students.
This arrives soon after NSFAS received experiences about some accommodation providers who require NSFAS-funded students to pay a deposit or top-up payment to be able to get access to the approved private accommodation.

"NSFAS reminds accommodation companies on the obligatory conditions, as furnished by the Standardised Fixed-Term Lease Agreement concerning the personal accommodation vendors and NSFAS funded students," NSFAS stated in a press release on Thursday.
The Standardised Fixed-Term Lease Agreement states that the rent is going to be paid month to month to the accommodation supplier (lessor) by NSFAS, on behalf on the lessee (NSFAS funded student), in accordance using the NSFAS terms and conditions for private accommodation suppliers’ participation on the student accommodation portal.
"The lessor may not involve or allow the lessee to pay for a deposit, top-up payments, or any other kinds of payment on the lessor, or another person in click here connection with this arrangement, together with payment of hire, though awaiting payment from NSFAS. The lessor shall have no recourse towards the lessee for any default while in the payment of rent by NSFAS," the arrangement reads.
The NSFAS terms and conditions for private accommodation vendors’ participation on the student accommodation portal also states that: "Where the NSFAS-funded student is defunded due to an incorrect determination by NSFAS, the scholar won't be liable for payment of any arrear rent to the accommodation provider, up till the day of being defunded."
NSFAS discussed that exactly where the read more NSFAS-funded student chooses to carry on occupying the leased premises, notwithstanding staying defunded by NSFAS, the student will be answerable for payment of lease into the lessor through the day of currently being defunded.

The scheme emphasised that any here dispute arising between the parties regarding the interpretation or implementation of the agreement, must nsfas status check be dealt with in accordance with any dispute resolution procedure determined by NSFAS for this purpose.
